Although you never expect for violence to happen, you have to be on alert and know how to defend yourself at all times. Unfortunately, there are predators of every kind out there. In order to keep yourself and your family safe, start by learning the steps to protecting yourself.
Here are some standard self-defense tips that can keep you out of harm’s way.
Don’t Take the First Swing
When you think of self-defense, your mind might automatically think of a predatory attacker. However, there are different types of scenarios in which violence can occur.
There may be an agitated person at the grocery store or a mentally unstable stranger that you bump into while walking down the street. Simple scenarios like that can lead to a fight.
If you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to fight back and defend yourself, always let them take the first punch. By doing so, they are the aggressor, which means you can claim self defense once law enforcement gets involved.
Poke Them in the Eyes
One of the primary ways to protect yourself is to poke the aggressor in the eye. By doing this, it’ll temporarily restrain the assailant. Not only will it hurt them, but they won’t be able to see what they’re doing.
When you do this move, make sure that you add a little force so that it dismantles them. In fact, it’s actually best to use something that’ll really do the job, like your car keys. This will ensure that you disable your attacker’s vision long enough to get away from them.
Target Their Nose
Using the palm of your hand, hit your attacker in the nose via an upward, forward motion. The nose is a very sensitive part of the body, so it’ll instantly cause pain.
If you hit them with enough force, it can cause the nose to bleed or break. No matter what happens as a result of the hit, if it’s done properly, it’ll hurt them enough for you to run away.
Perform a Wrist Lock
If you can do it quick enough, disable the assailant using a wrist lock. To perform this action, flip your attackers palm up, then twist it and force it to the ground. This will confuse them and throw them off.
However, it probably won’t stop the attack altogether. To make the wrist lock effective, also combine it with a different type of attack, like a kick in the knee or groin. Once they slump over in pain, get out of there!
